The Master of Arts in Linguistics is a flexible postgraduate program offered in both one-year and two-year formats. It is designed to deepen the understanding of the nature, structure, and function of language. The curriculum focuses on developing analytical skills for language structure, diachronic study, and the application of linguistic theory to practical activities, including language teaching and social analysis.
| Program Overview
We offer two distinct postgraduate paths aligned with the Sri Lanka Qualifications Framework (SLQF) standards. These programs are designed to cater to both professional development and advanced academic research.
The first year focuses on core theoretical and applied domains, while the second year (for the two-year program) is dedicated to original research.
| Entry Requirements
Applicants must hold a degree (minimum three academic years) from a university or higher education institution recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC).
Our faculty utilizes a blend of lectures, seminars, and workshops. Students are evaluated through:
Continuous assessments and in-class tests.
Year-end written examinations (six 3-hour papers for the first year).
A Research Dissertation and viva voce (oral examination) for two-year candidates.
Note: Candidates must maintain a minimum grade of B- for the thesis and all individual components to successfully complete the program.
