The Translation Circle of the Department of Linguistics at the University of Kelaniya successfully hosted the official book launch of ‘Pratīkṣā 08’ on May 8, 2026. Held at the K14 auditorium of the Faculty of Humanities, the event marked a memorable day of words, creativity, and celebration. This milestone publication represents the twentieth volume of short stories translated by the translation studies final year undergraduates reading for their degree program. Shifting from the previous volume's focus on traditional folklore, this year’s highly anticipated collection features thirty-six Sinhalese translations centered around a spine-chilling theme of horror and ghost stories.
The event was graced by an esteemed gathering of university officials, faculty members, and families who came together to celebrate the students' achievement. Among the distinguished guests were Dr. Sudath Senarath, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities, and Rev. Dr. Kapugollawe Anandakiththi, the Head of the Department of Linguistics. The audience also included academic staff members of the Department, proud parents of the translation studies final year undergraduates, and students representing the other batches of the program. The successful launch of 'Pratīkṣā 08' stands as a testament to the dedication of the final-year batch, continuing a proud departmental tradition of bridging languages and bringing diverse literary genres to Sinhalese readers.
