The Department of Linguistics, University of Kelaniya, through its Translation Circle Student Association, successfully conducted the second session of the Bhāṣārṇava Academic Colloquium Series on Translation Studies on Wednesday, 01 July 2026, at the K14 001 Auditorium of the University.
The second session, titled ‘English as Career Capital: Skills for Employability and Professional Growth,’ focused on unlocking global opportunities and enhancing professional development through English language proficiency. The session highlighted the vital role of advanced English language skills in academic, professional, and international contexts, equipping students pursuing careers in translation, interpretation, and linguistics with valuable insights into enhancing their employability and long-term career prospects.
The session featured Ms Lakshani Willarachchi, Senior Lecturer, Department of Languages, General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University, as the Resource Person.
The programme was attended by students from all four batches of the BA (Hons) in Translation Studies degree programme, together with final-year students of the BA (Hons) in Linguistics degree programme. Participants actively engaged in discussions and exchanged ideas on the significance of continuous language development in building successful careers. The programme also witnessed the presence of Ven. Dr Kapugollewe Anandakiththi Thero, Head of the Department of Linguistics, along with the academic staff members of the Department.
